“Cowichan is the perfect golf club!” - Shane Sparks, member since 2014, 16 handicap Why consider a membership at CGC? Well, to start we’ve built a great community of golf lovers— friendly, unpretentious and enthusiastic. The course layout is walkable and mixes forgiveness and challenge (no resort golf here), and has a classic ‘turn’ so the front and back 9’s are both accessible from the club house. Easy access off the highway with no housing developments on the course so you can enjoy the peace of the pristine natural setting. The proshop staff are the friendliest in the business and the grounds crew does an amazing job of keeping the course in top- notch shape. There’s wonderful social events for all skill levels — Mens’ & Ladies nights, Seniors Mornings, Ladies morning, League, Interleague play, various member-only tournaments, the Discovery Honda Open, and of course the August club championship. And the club membership is as diverse as the Cowichan Valley. Oh and the value can’t be beat. Unlimited golf Full play access Member events Advanced tee time ballots Women’s League (Wednesday Mornings) Senior Men’s League (Thursday Mornings) Member’s Mixed League (Sundays) Member social tournaments Interclub play Practice/chipping range privileges Reciprocal access at associated courses But really it depends on the kind of golfer you are. Casual golfer – So you’ve been playing a few rounds a year and hacking it up at the company tournament. Why make the leap? Well for one, if you want to get better you need to play more. But more importantly, when you are member you can just show up and play. No booking tee times well in advance and trying organize your other hacker buddies. Many members enjoy a few hours of golf after work as a way to unwind. It’s more fun than the gym and walking 9 holes of golf burns about 700 calories. And it’s easy to find new friends for a weekend round of a full 18 holes. It’s a great social community, and wouldn’t it be fun to put up some serious numbers at the next Texas scramble? Serious golfer — Cowichan is a great track to hone your game. Flexible, a more challenging back nine accessible from the club house, abundant on-course practice opportunities, enough challenge to be interesting, league and interclub competitions, and great value for the membership fee. Sunday league gets out many of the “serious” golfers in our club, and a new club championship has been crowned each of the last 5 years. Maybe you’ll be next. Families – NEW. We’ve launched a new family membership plan to get mom, dad and kids out for some great family time. Introducing your kids to golf early can mean a lifetime of bonding over a round of golf. And adults, you get full membership privileges to get out for some “recharge” time away from the kids. New to Golf? — Golf is a challenging game, but it is rewarding, fun and no one is too old to start. (Plus golfers statistically live longer!) You might not be shooting par, but it gets you outside in the fresh air, and includes you in a wonderful community. Membership for a new golfer gives you a change to play the course during off hours to practice your game. You don’t have to play 18 holes. Many members play 4, 6 or 9 hole practice rounds in the evenings. (The course layout makes it easy to get out.) Best of all you can just show up play after 2pm. “What I love about being a member at Cowichan, is that not every round has to be a 4.5 hour time commitment and planned in advance. I often just show up at the course in the afternoons to hit some balls and play nine holes. It’s a great social outlet and doesn’t take too much time away from the family, so I don’t feel guilty. And since the monthly fee includes UNLIMITED golf, I can play as much as I like without worrying about my monthly ‘fun’ budget.”
